Fantasy that feels human at its core

The first thing that pulled me toward this book was the cover that striking blue burst of light behind the silhouettes instantly tells you the story is going to be emotional, mysterious, and a little bit otherworldly. It sets the tone perfectly for the kind of journey this book takes you on.

From the very first chapter, you’re thrown into Tae-hee’s quiet, aching life. She’s a woman who has carried grief for so long that it almost feels like part of her. And then comes Kit a stranger who feels familiar, a man with her brother’s face, a shock that instantly shakes her world. That reunion scene? You feel every ounce of disbelief, longing, and heartbreak in it.

What really stays with you is how deeply personal this story feels. It’s not just fantasy it’s about memory, identity, family, and the kind of love that time can’t erase. The bond between Tae-hee and Kit is written with so much tenderness and pain that you start rooting for them from the moment they speak.

As the story unfolds, the supernatural layer creeps in slowly almost like a shadow you didn’t notice at first. The whole mystery around the Threlphax takes the book to another level, making you question everything you thought you understood.

I loved how the book balances emotional depth with that “wait what!?” fantasy twist. And Kit’s connection to Tae-hee’s past? It’s the kind of reveal that hits you hard and makes the whole story feel bigger and more dangerous than you expect.

If you enjoy character-driven fantasy with heart, mystery, and that soft, found-family warmth, this book is absolutely worth reading. It’s slow-burn, emotional, atmospheric, and the kind of story that lingers even after you’re done.

My Recommendation: Definitely pick this up if you love fantasy that feels human at its core emotional reunions, hidden identities, and secrets that change everything.
